I’ve been questioned recently about groups I support. More specifically – about a decal I have on my personal vehicle. Am I part of a far right extremist group?
I support free speech. I support freedom of religion. Anyone that knows me at all knows I support the right to keep and bear arms. So – am I part of the “Far Right”?
I don’t think so.
I’ve always considered myself a Moderate. But lately – the definition of ‘Moderate’ has shifted. In fact, I’m not even sure what a ‘Moderate’ is anymore.
It used to be that a Moderate was someone who agreed with the ideology from both sides of the political isle – what I consider picking the best of both worlds. Not fully Democrat and not Fully Republican. Neither 100% Conservative nor 100% Liberal. Middle of the road – willing to consider all perspectives. Moderate.
But that isn’t possible today.
I believe in free speech and oppose censorship as it limits the contemplation and discussion of opposing ideas. I am not ‘politically correct’ in my speaking or writing – I will call a spade a spade and am willing to deal with the consequences of doing so. But by thinking and doing such, I am considered Far Right by many.
I believe in The Triune God – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe in the teachings of The Bible – even when they conflict with modern life. I will not condemn you if you do not believe as I do, but I also will not accept your belief (or lack thereof). Again, with this thinking – I am Far Right.
I am a white male. I am proud of my race and heritage. By default, I am Far Right.
I am a gun owner. I own guns for hunting, guns for the protection of myself and my family, and guns for fun. Categorically, I am Far Right.
Finally, I believe in The United States Constitution and Bill of Rights. I support these documents as they are written, believing the words contained in them are timeless and need no interpretation. I will do everything within my power to protect them – be it from foreign interference and from corruption from within. Thus, I am Far Right.
So – do I consider myself Far Right as I have been deemed? No. I consider it as distasteful as racist, homophobe or other similar labels used as a means to demean others of differing points of view. As stated earlier, I consider myself a Moderate. But more importantly, I consider myself a United States Citizen and a person willing to stand up to preserve the rights and freedoms upon which this country was founded!
Another strong article! Great points. Moderates such as yourself have stayed consistent in our views over the years. The left changing the definition of moderate is what changed. Coincidentally the left has also changed the definition of hate and racism too.
